Norwegian energy company Haltbakk Bunkers has announced that it will stop supplying fuel to the US military in Norway and American ships docking in Norwegian ports due to dissatisfaction with recent US policy towards Ukraine, the UK Defense Journal reported.

The agency’s response came after a heated meeting between US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House on February 28, 2025.

In a statement, the organization criticized a televised event involving US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

Haltbakk Bunkers praised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his restraint and, on the other hand, referred to the US as “a backstabbing TV show” and declared that the scene made them sick.

According to the UK Defense Journal, the company said, “We have decided to immediately STOP as a fuel provider to American forces in Norway and their ships calling Norwegian ports. No Fuel to Americans!”

According to the report, Haltbakk Bunkers also called on Norwegians and Europeans to follow their lead, ending their speech with the slogan “Slava Ukraina” in support of Ukraine.

Haltbakk Bunkers

Based in Kristiansund, Norway, Haltbakk Bunkers (established in 1985) is a fuel supply company that provides marine fuel for shipping and military operations and plays an important role. The company specializes in bunkering services for both civilian and military vessels operating in Norwegian waters, providing fuel supply and distribution.

Haltbakk Bunkers supplies fuel to ships, including NATO and allied forces in Norwegian ports, which play an important role in the maritime industry.

The impact of this decision on the United States may have logical implications for American naval operations in the region. Norway joined NATO on 4 April 1949, is an important member, and often hosts US and allied forces for joint exercises and Arctic defense operations.

According to Ukdj, the announcement raises questions about the broader European stance on current US policy toward Ukraine and whether other businesses or governments might take similar steps. It is important how private companies in Europe are responding independently to geopolitical developments.

The United States has yet to respond to the company’s decision, and it remains to be seen whether it will affect fuel supply chains for future American forces operating in Norway and the North Atlantic region.
