Five Bosnian climbers have died after being caught in a violent snowstorm on Mount Elbrus in Russia’s Caucasus Mountains, Reuters reported, citing RIA Novosti. However, authorities said the bodies of three of the climbers had not yet been recovered from the mountain due to bad weather.
According to Russia’s Emergency Services Ministry, rescuers first rescued two other climbers from the mountain and sent them for treatment. Rescuers later recovered the bodies of two more climbers, who were located at an altitude of 5,350 meters (17,552 feet) on the mountain.
Rescuers had recovered the bodies of three more climbers, but they had not yet been evacuated due to adverse weather conditions, including strong winds, Reuters reported, citing Russian media.
Russian regional law enforcement agencies told RIA Novosti that the five climbers who died on Mount Elbrus (height 5,642 meters) were residents of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Elbrus, Europe’s highest mountain, located just north of the Georgian border, is notorious for its rapidly changing weather and climbing conditions.
Bosnian media reported that the seven climbers were from the central city of Zenica. The climbers included a married couple and a female doctor, according to Reuters.
