A study carried out by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (ONUDC) listed the ten most dangerous countries in the world, with high crime and high homicide rates. Most of them are located in the Caribbean, with paradisiacal beaches.
Based on data collected in 2022, the majority of homicides are linked to illegal activities involving the smuggling of weapons from the United States.
According to the study, Jamaica is at the top of the list of the most dangerous countries in the world. The country has a homicide rate of 53.34 per 100,000 inhabitants. In 2022, 1,508 murders were recorded.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines ranks second in crime, with a homicide rate of 40.41 per 100,000 people. Trinidad and Tobago closes the podium with 39.52 per 100 thousand people.
Saint Lucia (36.7 per 100 thousand inhabitants) and Honduras (35.09 per 100 thousand inhabitants) close the top 5. South Africa (33.96 per 100 thousand inhabitants), the Bahamas (31.22 per 100 thousand inhabitants), Saint Kitts and Nevis (29.41 per 100 thousand inhabitants), Belize (27.88 per 100 thousand inhabitants), and Ecuador (26.99 per 100 thousand inhabitants) complete the list.
