The United Kingdom will spend more than $335 million (£250 million) over the next three years to better protect its Jewish community, the government said on Monday, Reuters reported. The government’s move comes in the wake of a recent spate of anti-Semitic attacks.
The government said the plan would provide more than 500 extra officers across England and Wales. The extra officers will strengthen security in Jewish areas and around schools, synagogues, and community centers.
Around 0.5% of the UK population is Jewish, with the majority living in England and Wales, according to the 2021 census by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
There have been a series of attacks on Jewish-related sites in London, including the burning of four ambulances belonging to the Jewish voluntary ambulance organization Hatzola in March. In April, the stabbing of two Jewish men in north London was considered a terrorist attack by police, and the UK raised its national terrorism threat level from “significant” to “severe.”
The new package includes around 300 extra officers in London and around 80 in Greater Manchester to protect Jews. In addition, funding has been allocated for forces working in other areas with significant Jewish populations. A synagogue was attacked in Greater Manchester in early October 2025.

According to Reuters, the capital’s Metropolitan Police will receive £86 million from the new funding, while £59 million has been allocated for counter-terrorism operations.
The government believes that this funding will increase police patrols to deal with risky situations, which will provide visible reassurance and help prevent hate crimes and anti-Semitic incidents.
