world's richest people

The world’s richest people choose to live in a country temporarily or permanently because of a business-friendly environment, political stability, a better lifestyle, tax benefits, and amenities.

The source of information is Visual Capitalist and Henley & Partners.

Here, individuals are classified into three wealth tiers based on their liquid investable assets in US dollars, as of December 2024.

The world’s richest people live in these countries

United States

The United States has the world’s largest wealthy population, with over 6 million millionaires, over 10,000 centi-millionaires, and 867 billionaires, which has helped transform it into an economic superpower.

The country’s high wealth population is due to its economic scale, deep capital markets, and startup ecosystem, which make it a top destination for accumulating wealth.

China

China has the largest wealthy population in Asia and the second largest in the world, with 827,900 millionaires, 2,258 centi-millionaires, and 278 billionaires.

China’s population is about four times larger than America’s, meaning its proportion of ultra-rich individuals is lower than America’s. According to Visual Capitalist, the difference may be due to capital controls, a smaller number of global corporations, and recent regulatory restrictions on wealth accumulation.

Germany

Germany is one of the most industrialized countries in Europe, with 781,900 millionaires, 1,043 centi-millionaires, and 80 billionaires.

Japan

Japan is known for its technology and innovation, with 714,000 millionaires, 724 centi-millionaires, and 44 billionaires.

United Kingdom

The UK is the second largest economy in Europe, with 578,400 millionaires, 730 centi-millionaires, and 72 billionaires.

France

France is known for its high standard of living, with 490,800 millionaires, 635 centi-millionaires, and 60 billionaires.

Australia

Australia is an economically prosperous country located in Oceania, with 391,000 millionaires, 510 centi-millionaires, and 52 billionaires.

Switzerland

Switzerland has a remarkably large wealthy population in terms of overall size, reflecting their developed economy and high standard of living, with 384,900 millionaires, 657 centi-millionaires, and 40 billionaires.
