President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on his allies to strengthen Ukraine’s defense industry at the NATO summit in The Hague, Netherlands, on Tuesday, June 24, Reuters reported.
Under pressure from Ukrainian president Zelenskyy for support from NATO allies, Governor Serhiy Lysak said on Tuesday, June 24, that at least 15 people were killed and more than 200 injured in a Russian missile strike on the regional capital of Dnipro in southeastern Ukraine. He said at least 18 of the injured included children.
Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov said the rare daytime Russian missile strike damaged dozens of apartment buildings and educational institutions, among other sites, and caused “unprecedented destruction” in the city.
Governor Lysak said two people were killed in a Russian missile strike in the town of Samar, about 10 kilometers from Dnipro.
Reuters reported that the Russian attack came as Zelenskyy called on NATO member states at a summit in the Netherlands to increase investment in Ukraine’s growing defense sector and cut off supplies of foreign components that Russia says are used to make its weapons.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy was also scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the summit in the Netherlands.
Earlier, on June 17, a Russian airstrike in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, killed twenty-eight people, the deadliest attack of 2025.
On Monday, June 23, Russian airstrikes in Kiev and surrounding areas killed another 10 people and damaged several structures.
