Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta has struck several commercial artificial intelligence (AI) data deals with news publishers, including USA Today, PEOPLE, CNN, Fox News, The Daily Caller, Washington Examiner, and Le Monde, aiming to give users real-time, reliable news updates, the company said on Friday (December 5).

The deal will allow the social media giant to provide “real-time” news and updates by linking to publishers’ articles and websites through their AI chatbot.

The move comes amid increasing competition in the market, with rivals also investing heavily and signing content licensing deals to attract their users and strengthen their AI systems.

“When you ask Meta AI news-related questions, you will now receive information and links that draw from more diverse content sources to help you discover timely and relevant content tailored to your interests,” the company said, according to Reuters.

The report says that the company is struggling to maintain a relevant position in the AI competition after receiving a low response to their Llama 4 model (Meta’s advanced artificial intelligence model) while spending billions on AI efforts and planning to cut budgets on metaverse initiatives.

According to the company, Meta will add new partnerships and explore new features. However, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
