Facebook and Instagram are owned by Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta company. In order to evaluate the efficacy of the tool, Blumhouse Productions, the Hollywood studio responsible for popular horror films such as “The Park” and “Get Out,” is partnering with Meta. Last Thursday, Meta made this information public through a statement.
In a blog post, Zuckerberg’s Meta announced that it had chosen Casey Affleck, the Spurlock Sisters, and filmmaker Anish Chaganti to test its artificial intelligence (AI) video creation tool, Movie Gen. These filmmakers will use the video footage created with Movie Gen for their short films. The short film produced by Movie Gen will be shown on Meta’s Movie Gen website.
‘Movie Gen’ is an automatic video creation tool that uses written prompts to let you create videos with voice-over textual instructions. Apart from creating soundtracks and music for various scenes, the tool can also be used to edit any video.
The Movie Gen tool can create videos up to 16 seconds long and audio up to 45 seconds long. With the option to create short videos, users can easily create reels and small advertisements and publish them online with the tool. This means that well-known AI tools from Runway, OpenAI, ElevenLabs, and Gling are anticipated to compete with the Movie Gen tool.
Additionally, the technology is designed to edit and create videos and sounds using simple text commands while maintaining 1080p HD video and audio quality. According to the source, however, the technology will not be included in Facebook’s public products until the following year. As part of a pilot program, the company wanted filmmakers to test the technology and offer feedback.
A strike against major video game developers, including Activision, Warner Bros., and Walt Disney, has been called by Hollywood artists and craftsmen involved in the video game industry due to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in games. The Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has called a strike to demand better protections from the use of AI. Earlier last year, Hollywood actors and crew called a strike under the banner of Sag-Aftra. Then Hollywood practically came to a standstill.
