On 14 March, NASA’s SpaceX Crew-10 mission, carrying four astronauts from Florida to the International Space Station, successfully launched from Florida’s Space Coast.

The launch was scheduled to lift off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Wednesday (March 12) but was delayed at 7:03 pm on Friday due to hydraulic ground problems.

Crew-10’s arrival at the ISS (International Space Station) will pave the way for the return to Earth of NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams of Crew-9, who have been stuck in space since June 2024.

The two astronauts’ return to Earth was delayed due to safety concerns regarding the Boeing Starliner capsule they used for the journey.

Crew-10 mission

This Crew-10 mission has NASA’s Anne McClain, the commander, and Nichole Ayers, the pilot. Also present are Japanese mission specialist Takuya Onishi and Russian cosmonaut Kirill Peskov.

The crew will perform more than 200 experiments during their mission, according to the space agency NASA.

One of the most prominent tests on this mission includes a material combustibility test and will help contribute to future spacecraft and facility designs, according to NASA.

NASA also said the crew will communicate with students around the world via ham radio, and the astronauts will serve as test subjects, with one crew member on the mission leading a study to understand how space affects the body and mind, which will help prepare scientists and astronauts for future deep-space missions.
