Singer Nivea, who rose to fame in the early 2000s, has opened up about her personal battle with cancer in a new interview and said she is grateful to be on the road to recovery, according to USA Today.
R&B singer Nivea told “Cadillac Chronicles” host Brian Freeman that she was diagnosed with leukemia in early 2026.
The 40-year-old shared with host Freeman that she is so grateful to God, that she is receiving treatment, and that everything is going very well so far. “I expect it to continue. Amen.”
According to government data, leukemia is a type of deadly cancer that affects blood cells, causing many deaths in the United States each year. However, there are few treatments for the disease. Although she did not give any additional details about her condition, she said that her cancer diagnosis has changed her outlook.
“It’s so cliché to say you don’t know the time nor the hour, but it’s true, and it just helped me put a lot of things in perspective. I live in gratitude, like, religiously,” she added.
Nivea, nominated at the 45th Annual Grammy Awards held in 2003, is known for the classic hits “Don’t Mess With My Man,” “Complicated,” and “Don’t Mess With the Radio.”
She has a daughter and twin boys with producer The-Dream, while she has a son with rapper Lil Wayne.
