Rohit Bal, the famous Indian designer of the 1990s, has died at the age of 63

Rohit Bal, one of India’s most famous fashion designers, was forced to take a long hiatus due to illness but made a mental comeback a few weeks ago and has died (1 November, 2024) at the age of 63 following an illness. The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) announced his death in a post on Instagram and expressed condolences. BBC reported.

Bal, one of India’s first designers, made fashion design a lucrative and glamorous career in the 1990s, and much of the credit goes to this man for the success of those who exist today because of this Indian designer.

This Indian designer’s innovative creations were worn by Hollywood stars and supermodels. 

Bal, who was born in Srinagar, Indian-state Kashmir, in 1961, achieved an honors degree in history from St Stephens College in Delhi. He then spent several years learning the ins and outs of his family’s export company.

After completing his education in fashion design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Delhi, he set up his own label and designer line in 1990 and later opened several stores in India, the Middle East, and Europe.

She has a website named rohitbal.com, and she has presented various dresses designed by herself. He refers to himself as a designer there.

Time magazine named him India’s ‘Master of Fabric and Fantasy’ in 1996. Bal’s designs were widely worn by supermodels Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, and Pamela Anderson, as well as Hollywood actress Uma Thurman. Anna Kournikova, a tennis star, walked the catwalk for his Paris show in 2001.

Bal, whose elaborate designs were influenced by Indian grandeur and royalty, is best known for his use of lotus and peacock motifs on rich fabrics like velvet and brocade.

In addition to creating his own clothing line, Bal collaborated with gigantic textile company Aditya Birla Group, endorsed goods ranging from shoes to linen, and even dabbled in jewelry and luxurious watches.

Bal has designed costumes for the popular Indian game show Kaun Banega Crorepati and British Airways cabin crew.

In addition, Bal ventured into the restaurant industry, designing the interiors of Veda, a posh restaurant in Delhi, whose lavish decor generated a lot of attention in the Indian press.
