Two people were arrested Feb. 27 on charges of stealing and reselling more than 900 concert tickets for richest female musician Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, netting more than $600,000, and could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted, the Queens District Attorney’s Office said in a March 3 press release, reported Eonline.
Tyrone Rose, 20, of Jamaica, and Shamara P. Simmons, 31, of Queens, New York, were charged with grand larceny, computer tampering, and conspiracy in the ticket scam. They each face up to 15 years in prison if convicted in the case, according to the district attorney.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement that the defendants attempted to exploit the popularity of Taylor Swift’s concert tour and other major events to profit at the expense of others.
Katz also said the two allegedly exploited a vulnerability in a foreign ticket seller’s system to intercept and resell tickets for a “tremendous profit.”
Swift’s Eras Tour, according to the New York Times, has grossed $2 billion in ticket sales alone. The result made it the highest-grossing concert tour in history, and Swift told fans at her final show after the feat that it was no easy feat.
Swift told fans in Vancouver, Canada, in December that she’s traveled the world with this tour, she’s had so many adventures, and it’s the most exciting, powerful, electrifying, intense, and challenging thing she’s ever done in her entire life.
