England defeated France 6-4 in the World Cup third-place play-off at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday, July 18. France lost, but legendary Kylian Mbappé became the tournament’s all-time top scorer with 22 goals. Lionel Messi previously held the record with 21 goals.
Mbappé leads the Golden Boot list with 10 goals, followed by Argentine forward Messi with eight. Meanwhile, Michael Olise made history by providing seven assists in the tournament, surpassing the six assists set by Brazilian legend Pele in 1970.
Mbappé scored twice and assisted once for France, while Ousmane Dembélé and Bradley Barcola scored once each. Olise had two assists.
For England, Bukayo Saka scored his first World Cup hat-trick. Declan Rice, Ezri Konsa, and Jude Bellingham each scored a goal. Marcus Rashford, Eberechi Eze, and Rice each provided an assist. Bellingham set a new record for most goals (7) for England at a World Cup after scoring against France.

However, Messi will have to show his magic in the final to overtake Mbappé in the race for the Golden Boot. France may have ended their campaign, but the French star has established himself as a World Cup legend, scoring 22 goals in 22 matches.
Didier Deschamps has left the France national team after 185 appearances. Under his leadership, France won the UEFA Nations League and the 2018 FIFA World Cup and reached the finals of major tournaments.
